As stated by the Federal Reserve, appraisal reviews "must determine whether the appraisal or evaluation is fitting for the transaction, the risk of the transaction, and whether the process by which the collateral valuation is obtained guarantees independence and quality." In addition, they "should denote whether the appraisal or evaluation report matches the letter of engagement, which gives an account of the capacity of the appraisal assignment." Last, The Federal Reserve notes that "some institutions augment periodic reviews with post-funding evaluations of appraisal quality for any of their higher-risk or higher-value transactions as a means to assist in detecting valuation concerns."
